ADHD & Autism Specialist Counsellor
I am a neuroaffirmative counsellor, and have considerable experience of working with adults, students & young people who have an assessment or self-diagnosis of ADHD and Autism.
I will offer you a warm, accepting, and non-judgemental space to talk about your feelings and the issues you would like to bring to counselling.
Starting counselling can be daunting so I offer a free 15 min telephone or video call to see if you feel we could work together. You can let me know of any accommodations that you would like, such as shorter sessions, no eye contact, any sensory issues etc. I will not ask you to decide straight away, you can see how you feel after talking to me, and get back to me if you would like counselling.
My pathway to becoming a Neuroaffirming Strengths-Based Counsellor
A number of years ago I became aware that many clients coming for counselling were displaying neurodivergent traits, some were diagnosed some were not.
I already had some background in working with neurodivergence from past professional roles and lived experience. However, I wanted to ensure that I was competent, with both the skills and knowledge, to work a neuroaffirming and effective manner.
To that end, I started on a pathway of CPD and training gathering knowledge and skills from a wide range of sources.
Since embarking on becoming specialist in this area I have undertaken the following CPD and training:
- Specialist Diploma in Neurodiversity Informed Practice - The Greenane Centre, IACP Approved, February-October 2024
- Working with Neurodivergent Clients Using the Autism Dialogue Approach® - August 2023
- Masterclass in Support & Therapy for Autistic Girls & Women - Attwood & Garnett 2023
- Certified Autism Clinical Specialist Intensive Training - PESI, 2023
- I presented at the Onlinevents Living & Working with Neurodivergence Conference - October 2023.
- I have delivered training, written blogs and recorded a podcast aimed at counsellors to increase their awareness about neurodivergence.
- I am a member of the BACP Schools & Colleges Expert Reference Group and a BACP Communities of Practice Champion for Neurodivergence in Education.
